Dutch defender receives public farewell as club confirm his transfer to Manchester City

PEC Zwolle have finally confirmed that young defender Philippe Sandler is joining Manchester City in the summer, after his transfer had been pretty much confirmed by everyone – including the player himself – except either club.

Sandler, 21, is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the Eredivisie and is a Dutch youth international. City fended off competition from top local sides for Sandler’s signature, with the Blues paying a reported €3million for him – the club’s biggest ever sale.

And on Sunday, Sandler was given a public farewell at the MAC³PARK Stadion in Zwolle, being clapped on to the pitch after PEC’s 1-0 defeat to Willem II.

The club officially recognised his move to Manchester City for the first time, with the transfer to go through once the transfer window opens.

The likely plan for Sandler is for him return to the Netherlands on loan, but for a top side, with PSV Eindhoven mooted as a possible destination for the classy centre-half.
