Manchester City have held initial talks with representatives of Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale to explore a possible summer deal, Spanish journalist Jorge Calabrés reports for El Bernabéu.

28-year-old Bale has been linked with a switch away from Real Madrid but it is Manchester United who are more commonly associated with a move for him. And Calabrés reports that Jose Mourinho has also been in contact with the Welshman, with the dream being that he take the number 11 shirt previously worn by his compatriot Ryan Giggs.
Though Manchester United are more advanced with their contacts, the big claim is that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have now contacted Bale’s entourage to explore a deal, with the Blues known to be in the market for a world-class forward.
The article, which also dubiously claims City have a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmind’s Julian Weigl, while maintaining an interest in Riyad Mahrez and Isco, goes on to insinuate that it would be Guardiola’s revenge for Manchester United snatching Alexis Sanchez from their cross-city rivals in January, after making him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
Bale would not come cheap although his price-tag wouldn’t be what it once was, especially given his struggles with injuries. The former Tottenham star has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, with 22 of them coming in La Liga. Bale has averaged 25 appearances per La Liga season prior to this campaign, on average missing 13 league games.
