Despite news from Manchester City transfer specialists Jose Alvarez and Sam Lee that the Blues have made Napoli’s Jorginho their number one midfield target in the summer, there has been little talk of it from Italy – until now.
Claudio Russo, a writer for major Napoli source CalcioNapoli24, has added his own information to the mix in an exclusive report, claiming that Pep Guardiola’s City are the only team seriously pressing for the 26-year-old Italian international, despite reports in England that Manchester United have entered the running.
And their information from Naples is that the title-chasing Serie A club have given their number 8 a ‘top rating’ by setting a huge price-tag of €70million (£61.4million) for Manchester City or anyone else, Manchester United or otherwise, who want to take him away from the Stadio San Paolo this summer.

The deal could be done in a way that includes a lower initial fee with performance-based bonuses taking it up to €70million, and with the player having no release clause and under contract until 2020, Napoli feel they can set whatever fee they want.
City must now decide whether to make Jorginho the most expensive defensive midfielder in history, with the player’s agent, Joao Santos, being close to a personal agreement with City after meeting Txiki Begiristain in Manchester recently. Possible alternatives include Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl and previous target Fred of Shakhtar Donetsk.
