Manchester City fans will have plenty to celebrate on Sunday when they take on Swansea, with it being the first match since the Blues were crowned champions of England.
And there may be another reason for joy tomorrow afternoon at the Etihad Stadium with news from French newspaper L’Equipe today that Benjamin Mendy is in the squad, six and a half months after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Mendy suffered the ACL injury against Crystal Palace all the way back in September, but after a run-out for the under-23s against Manchester United recently, he has had ‘two convincing training sessions’.
After coming through two intensive sessions and feeling no pain in his knee, Mendy is in the match day squad to face Swansea on Sunday, L’Equipe claims.
Whether the 23-year-old left-back will play a part remains to be seen, but he is now certain to get some minutes before the season ends, which also bodes well for his hopes of playing for France at the World Cup.
