Brighton & Hove Albion defender Liam Rosenior is a confessed Manchester United supporter from his youth and even he, a red, believes this season’s Manchester City side are better than Manchester United’s famous treble winners.
Speaking to 5 live Sport on Tuesday, the 33-year-old veteran said: “I was a Man United fan as a kid and the ’99 treble-winning team were my heroes.
“It is a big statement but for me City are the best team I’ve ever seen at this level. I don’t think there is a team that beats them.”
Asked to elaborate on why he believes this, Rosenior gave a clear description.
“I think collectively they’re so good with the ball, they’re so good without the ball, they press the ball well, they’re defensively sound.
“We don’t speak about their defensive record. Their defensive record is absolutely outstanding.
“The attacking players they’ve got – and they’re still young – they can improve and grow.
“And I think the collective, the way Guardiola has got them playing as a team is something we’ve never seen in this country before.”
