Manchester City are in the race with five other Premier League sides to sign Norwich City sensation James Maddison, according to both the Telegraph and Mirror.
Maddison, 21, is a thrice-capped England under-21 international and has been outstanding in the Championship this season with 14 goals and 6 assists. His form has alerted a host of Premier League clubs who view him as a talent capable of playing at the highest level.
City are joined by Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Brighton and Southampton in a six-way tussle for Maddison, an attacking midfielder, who could cost around £30million should he be sold in the summer.
What could work against the Premier League champions is Maddison’s preference to join a club where he would have a realistic chance of playing first-team football.
City have the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Ilkay Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling in roles Maddison can operate, and he would have to fight for a spot at the Etihad.
Maddison earns £13,000-a-week at Carrow Road and could expect to quadruple that salary with a move to the Premier League. City’s best hope of signing him might be to loan him out with a future pathway to Pep Guardiola’s first team mapped out.
