From Spain: Manchester City deliver blow to Barcelona by signing La Masia wonderkid

Manchester City have raided La Masia again by securing one of the most talented prospects in Barcelona’s academy, Adrià Bernabé, ahead of next season.

Diario SPORT journalist Albert Rogé broke the news on Twitter today, tweeting: “Booom💣! Adrià Bernabé will leave Barça at the end of the season to play for Manchester City!”

Fellow journalist, Gerard Romero, says City will pay only training fees for the player, because his contract is up in June.

A 16-year-old midfielder, Bernabé is one of the most highly thought of players in Barcelona’s esteemed academy and losing him to Man City will come as a major blow. The Catalan club signed him from neighbours Espanyol several years ago and had hopes that he could break through to the first team.

Bernabé will be the second big prospect to quit La Masia for the City Football Academy in a year, after centre-back Eric García, one of Barça’s best defensive hopes since Gerard Piqué, joined last summer.

City have also been pursuing another Barcelona youth, Robert Navarro, but recent suggestions are that any deal for that particular wonderkid may not go ahead.
