The saying goes “once a blue, always a blue”. And in the aftermath of Manchester City being crowned Premier League champions, many former City stars have come out to congratulate the team. Even Roberto Mancini, the man who started it all, passed on his best wishes on Twitter.
Two former City stars who know all about winning the Premier League are Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov, who were in the squads that won the 2011/12 and 2013/14 titles. The Balkan duo now play for Roma, who are through to the Champions League semi-finals where they will
hopefully beat play Liverpool over two legs.
And speaking to the official City website, Kolarov has revealed that he and Edin were following the United defeat to West Brom and celebrated as if they were still at City.
“Before we played Lazio on Sunday, I was following the United game along with Edin and when they lost, we were both so happy,” said Kolarov, who left City last summer after seven years at the club.
“For me, I was happy as if I was part of it, so it means as much to me as it does to the players, Pep the staff and the City supporters.
“Obviously, if you are on the pitch when it happens, you can enjoy it more, but it doesn’t matter that much because it is the result of the many games you have played rather than one moment.
“Of course, I knew we would win the title before Christmas, so this was just the confirmation of the inevitable – it was just a little unlucky we didn’t do it again United.
“I can’t recall a team dominating a domestic competition like the Premier League like us – and I say ‘us’, because I still feel part of everything.
“I tried to call Vinnie after the game, but I think he was busy celebrating so I’ll try again this evening – they are all probably busy answering hundreds of messages.”
Aleks had plenty more to say about City and Pep, which can be found in the full interview on the official site.
