Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera believes English football has not seen a better side than this season’s Manchester City since Arsenal’s legendary ‘Invincibles’ of 2003/04.
Herrera, who was at the centre of controversy when he appeared to spit on the City crest during Manchester United’s recent derby day victory, was a lot more courteous in an interview with Barcelona-based Mundo Deportivo.
“In any other year we would have competed for the Premier League, but we can’t take anything away from what City have done,” said the 28-year-old former Athletic Bilbao man.
“I can’t remember a better team since Wenger’s Arsenal of the 2003/04 season, which did not lose any matches. If next season we are able to match or improve our record, we will be in the fight.”
Manchester United are one of only two teams to defeat Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking Manchester City side in the Premier League this season, with the Blues still on course to lift the trophy despite hitting a bad patch lately.
City take on Tottenham on Saturday night at Wembley, and a win would not clinch the title, with United facing West Brom a day later, but would move them closer after the disappointing of derby day last weekend.
