Footage has emerged on Twitter tonight of a Liverpool fan celebrating after one of their goals and being set upon by some City supporters.
For context, the Liverpool fan managed to get some tickets in the Family Stand, where many parents sit with their children, despite City’s strict sale criteria and the match selling out weeks in advance.
The supporter obviously couldn’t hide his joy after Liverpool scored and fists were thrown, much to the horror of many around those involved.
Rebekah Parker, who captured the incident on her phone, tweeted: “This is what happens when you’re a Liverpool fan in the City family stand and you cheer when youu score. What have I just witnessed?
“The stewards finally came and sorted it out, it was horrendous, it’s a family stand full of young children.”
Not for the first time in recent years, City’s strict sale criteria has not been completely effective, after a host of Borussia Mönchengladbach fans found themselves in the South Stand a couple of years ago, leading to some tense scenes between home and away fans.
