Manchester City remain interested in previously linked Nice midfielder Jean-Michaël Seri, but any move for the Ivorian may now be more complicated, L’Equipe reports.
Seri is ‘always being followed closely’ by Manchester City according to the French newspaper, but Chelsea have now arrived at the table and have very recently requested information about the conditions of a transfer.
The 26-year-old is expected to leave Nice in the summer after almost joining Barcelona last year, and along with City, Manchester United have also been linked with the player in recent months.
Chelsea are in need of additions to a squad that has struggled badly to follow up on last year’s Premier League title win, and are likely to bring in a number of new players as well as a new coach to replace Antonio Conte.
City also need a new midfielder and Seri may well be on a shortlist, but Julian Weigl’s name has again popped up and there are claims that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is Pep Guardiola’s new priority.
Seri, who has made 25 appearances in Ligue 1 for Nice this season, is expected to cost the successful buyer around €40million (£34.9million).
