Since his £34.9million move from Benfica last summer, Ederson has impressed Manchester City fans not just with his incredible distribution skills but also his high-quality shot-stopping.
In his debut campaign, Ederson finds himself a candidate for the Golden Glove award, behind only David de Gea, and City have conceded fewer goals than anyone – Manchester United included.
The Brazilian’s rise to fame has not gone unnoticed outside of the Etihad Stadium either. Members of the press and fans of other clubs have also began to acknowledge the 24-year-old’s talent as the season has gone on. Especially his ability to ping the ball accurately to teammates.
But what does one of the world’s top goalkeepers think of him? Asked to name the best five goalkeepers in the world, Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen declined to name himself, but did name Ederson along with popular goalkeepers such as De Gea, Neuer and Buffon.
Unfortunately for Ederson, another of the world’s best young goalkeepers – Alisson of Roma – also happens to be Brazilian and means the City shot-stopper is currently Brazil’s number two. Alisson was also named by Ter Stegen.
“The top five goalkeepers in the world? De Gea, Neuer, Buffon, Alisson and Ederson,” Ter Stegen said at a press conference. “I can’t say who’s the best among them because they have a different style of play and are doing really well in their respective teams.”
At 24, Ederson is the youngest of the players named by Germany international Ter Stegen and still has improvement left in him. City fans hope that in a decade’s time he will go down as one of, if not the best goalkeeper in club history.
