Despite reports last week that a deal was all but done, Manchester City now appear unlikely to sign Barcelona wonderkid Robert Navarro according to new reports from the region.
Kike Marin of El Confidencial had reported that City sent a representative to La Masia and reached an agreement with Navarro’s representatives that would see him join the youth ranks at the CFA next season.
Renowned Barcelona-based journalist Gerard Romero cast that claim into serious doubt days ago by saying City had ‘taken a step back’, leaving Navarro’s other English suitor, Arsenal, with a better chance of signing him. And of course, Barcelona hadn’t and still haven’t given up on convincing the youngster to sign a professional contract when he turns 16 on April 12.

Another journalist in the region, Albert Rogé of SPORT, backed up Romero’s information by saying the threat of sanctions from FIFA means City do not want to take risks when signing a youngster.

Rogé says Arsenal want a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ from Navarro’s camp, while Barça are now more optimistic of renewing a young gem they had seemed certain to lose just weeks ago.
