Manchester City fans were ready for round
two three four of the never-ending Isco transfer saga this summer after Spanish journalist Jorge Calabrés told El Chiringuito TV last Wednesday that Pep Guardiola was in for him.
The journalist’s claim was that Pep had promised the Real Madrid and Spain star that not only would he play all the time, but would also be a leader in the side, something Real Madrid cannot guarantee him.
A day later, some backing arrived from England with the Mirror stating that City were growing confident of getting a £75million done for a player they have pursued since 2013, when he famously joined Real Madrid after he had seemed on the verge of an Etihad switch.
One of the journalists who cast doubt on these rumours was Sam Lee of Goal, and today another reputable journo, Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News, has poured cold water on the latest Isco rumours.
Brennan reports that Manchester City sources have made it clear that Isco isn’t on their list of targets and Pep Guardiola is pursuing other players – with Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City one of the potential signings.
Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane himself was quite blunt after being asked about the rumours in late March, saying: “I’m happy with him. There is no problem. I’m happy with his performances. Isco is a Real Madrid player and he’ll remain here. That’s it.”
