Liverpool are facing the prospect of being without in-demand midfielder Emre Can on Wednesday night at Anfield when they host Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The 24-year-old has been a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven this season and was impressive in their 4-3 win over City at Anfield, which remains the only defeat that Pep Guardiola’s side have suffered in the Premier League this campaign.
According to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, Can is still feeling the effects of a back injury which forced him off in last month’s 5-0 win over Watford, and still hasn’t trained with his Liverpool teammates at Melwood, making him a major doubt for the game.
Can is out of contract in the summer and City are one of the clubs to have been linked with him, along with Juventus, Bayern Munich and more recently Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
City have an injury concern of their own with Sergio Aguero a major doubt for the game, although Gabriel Jesus, who today turns 21, showed his quality at the weekend by slotting in for Kun and scoring against Everton.
