The 26-year-old Cameroon international, who has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, is likely to require surgery on a thigh injury after sustaining the issue in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Subsequently his season is almost certainly over.

This means that Dejan Lovren is poised to partner Virgil van Dijk at both Anfield and the Etihad as they look to keep out City’s free-scoring strike force.
City are the only side to have outscored Liverpool (88 goals vs 75 goals) in the Premier League so their own defence will have work to do up against Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.
