In the end, it was Serie A side Roma who won the race for the talented Turk, who has been impress in his debut campaign for I Giallorossi, scoring 5 goals in the league.
Speaking to Spor Arena, the 20-year-old confirmed that he had received an offer to join Pep Guardiola’s team, but turned it down.
“I received an offer from Manchester City, but I turned it down,” said Ünder. “The project of Roma, attitude of the club, and the coach were important to me.
“Then, with the sale of Salah, the team has become more suited to my style.”
It was probably a wise move by Ünder, especially after his representative, Ömer Uzun, said last year that City intended to put him in the loan system by sending him to Freiburg in Germany.
Instead, Ünder signed for Roma in a €13.4million deal and has been rewarded with 24 appearances in all competitions this season.
