Manchester City are trying to raid Barcelona’s famed La Masia once again, with attacking midfielder Robert Navarro in their sights, newspaper SPORT has revealed.
15-year-old Navarro, a Spanish youth international, could be the next Barça boy to make the switch from Catalonia to Manchester after Eric García joined City in the summer for £1.7million.
The youngster turns 16 on April 12, at which point he will be eligible for a professional contract, but Manchester City are best placed to sign him having made a tempting sporting and economic offer. Barcelona have yet to make a firm renewal offer and risk losing Navarro to England.
Navarro wants to learn Barcelona’s plans for him before making a decision on his future, and with him having no release clause, any club would only have to hand over formation rights rather than any significant transfer fee.
Although the Citizens are in pole position to sign Navarro should he quit Barça, Juventus, Monaco and Arsenal also want to sign him and could offer late competition.
In the coming days, a meeting will be held to define Navarro’s future and the Catalan club will want to keep hold of him after his exceptional performances at the MIC tournament.
