Napoli midfielder Jorginho is one of an ever-growing list of midfielders being linked with a summer move to Manchester City, who are looking to bring in a Yaya Touré replacement in the next window.
The 26-year-old has been outstanding for the Serie A side this season, with 4 goals and 4 assists in 26 league appearances, and that has led to him being linked with a big money move away from the Stadio San Paolo.
The player’s agent, Joao Santos, was in the stands as Argentina beat Italy 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Friday night, and according to RAI Sport he wasn’t just there to watch his client, but to gauge the level of interest from Manchester City and Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola has spoken highly of the Brazil-born Italy international Jorginho before, and speaking to reporters said he is delighted to have received such praise from the legendary Catalan.
“It’s always nice to receive compliments, but it’s spectacular when they come from a manager with that importance and winning past,” Jorginho is quoted as saying by ESPN FC.
“He’s a global icon. All I can do is to be grateful. This is a consequence not just of my work but of all my teammates in Napoli.”
There have been some debates on social media about if Jorginho would suit the Premier League style of football, but he is confident he could adapt.
“I think that I could fit. It depends on who else is around me — I need players with the same characteristics that I have.
“There are English teams with this style of play, ball on the ground, quick transitions, high pressure.
“If one of those teams wanted me, I could fit and the other way round. My football way is not an usual one.”
With a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred now appearing off, there are a host of potential midfield options City could bring in, and pass-master Jorginho may well be high on the list of candidates.
