Manchester City whiz-kid Phil Foden ranked in best five teens in world football on NxGn Top 50

Manchester City wonderkid Phil Foden is the fifth best teenager in world football in 2018 – according to the ‘NxGn 2018: 50 Best Teenagers in the World’ list created by Goal.com.

The 17-year-old has broken into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City first-team fold this season, quite a feat considering the talent available and standard set by the record-breaking Shark Team.

Foden, who was also named the best player at last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup, has made 8 appearances in total for City this season, three of them in the Champions League and is gaining valuable experience under the tutelage of Guardiola.

On a list packed with highly regarded teens, Foden has been ranked fifth behind only Matthijs De Ligt, Vinicius Junior, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and list-topper Justin Kluivert.

The description of Stockport-born Foden reads:

There are few better judges of talent than Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and the former Barcelona playmaker has described Phil Foden as “a gift” from the club’s academy to his senior squad. After wowing the Catalan with his performance in a pre-season friendly against Manchester United last summer, the versatile Foden, who can play in midfield, as a trequartista or out wide, has since showcased his wonderful skills in both the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as inspiring the England Under-17s to World Cup glory in India in November.

One other City youngster, Brahim Diaz, also made the list, as did former young Blue, Jadon Sancho. Diaz’s paragraph reads:

The appointment of Pep Guardiola as Manchester City boss was always going to mean good things for Brahim Diaz, given the Catalan had tried to sign the former Malaga attacker when he was in charge at Barcelona. Guardiola’s only concern now is protecting the Spain Under-21 international from the Premier League’s most brutal defenders, not to mention keeping him out of the clutches of Real Madrid, who are keen on signing Diaz.

Much is expected of Foden and Brahim, who played together at youth team level and now are in Guardiola’s first team thinking, and they will hope 2018 is another year of progress and good development.
