Real Betis are considering a move for Manchester City right-back Pablo Maffeo in the summer transfer window, Columna Cero reports.
The 20-year-old has impressed on loan at Girona FC this season and could find himself having to move on from City in the summer if the situation at the club doesn’t change, with expensive acquisitions Kyle Walker and Danilo regarded as Pep Guardiola’s current right-back options.
There has been talk of Maffeo being integrated into Guardiola’s squad after a season that has seen him put up good performances against the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Betis, who like Girona are chasing a Europa League spot, are said to be ‘seriously weighing up’ Maffeo as a signing for the 2018/19 season, with the right-back position one that the club’s technical team have identified for reinforcements.
Maffeo’s deal ends in June 2019, and this summer could be decisive for his future. City may try to renew his contract if they have plans for him, but if the Spain under-21 international doesn’t feel like he is in Guardiola’s plans, the Blues may have to cash in on him.
According to Columna Cero, Betis would look to pay around €7million (£6.1million) for Maffeo if he is made available for transfer.
