Manchester City starlet snubs England call-up to play for Germany

Manchester City academy prospect Felix Nmecha was called up to represent England at under-18 level during the current international break, but has stunned The FA by instead opting to represent his country of birth, Germany.

Felix, younger brother of another England youth international Lukas Nmecha, who made his first-team debut this season for City, was one of four City prospects named in the England under-18 squad to take on Qatar, Argentina and Belarus, along with Curtis Anderson, Joel Latibeaudiere and Ian Carlo Poveda.

However, Nmecha has played two friendlies for Germany’s under-18 side against France in recent days, coming off the bench on Friday before making his full debut on Monday afternoon.

Felix, 17, could still opt to represent England or even Nigeria at senior level in the future, but Germany now appear in the lead to acquire his services. England will hope his older brother Lukas, who is in the under-20 squad on the current international break, will stick with the Three Lions.
