David Silva released from national team duty by Spain

David Silva has been released from national team commitments with Spain for ‘personal reasons’, the Selección Española de Fútbol has announced.

No reasons are disclosed, but Silva continues to check regularly on his prematurely born son Mateo in Valencia, which has led to him missing a number of Manchester City games this season. His absence is most likely linked to that.

Spain have not said if El Mago will return in time to face Argentina at the Wanda Metropolitano on 27 March, a game which Sergio Aguero will certainly be absent from as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

As always, we wish the very best to David Silva whatever the situation may be.
