Manchester City are emerging as a potential destination for Brazilian superstar Neymar should he choose to move on from Paris Saint-Germain amid rumours he is regretting his move to Ligue 1.
That is the claim of Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, which on Friday reported that City have ‘sneaked on to the list’ of candidates to sign Neymar if he quits Parc des Princes.
Real Madrid have a very prominent position on that list of candidates, but Neymar’s entourage are ‘far from ruling out’ a move to the Etihad Stadium for the 26-year-old and are assessing all of their options.
Neymar is said to have always liked watching the Premier League and is a known admirer of Pep Guardiola, which could give City some pulling power, particularly if Real Madrid can’t or won’t finance a deal.
‘Operation Neymar’ would fall within City’s financial capabilities, which would undoubtedly require them to break the world record as PSG did when they extracted him from Barcelona for €222million a year ago.
Manchester United could also enter the fray, particularly with their need to rebuild a squad languishing behind City, and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic released from his big-money contract on Thursday.
PSG will not make it easy for any club to sign their poster boy, one of world football’s most marketable players, and it is even believed they will base their next signings and coaching staff to suit the prodigious Brazilian.
