Manchester City starlet Manu García continues turning heads after new milestone at NAC Breda

Manu García is making quite an impression over in the Netherlands, where he is enjoying a second loan spell at NAC Breda.

Last season, the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder helped NAC win promotion to Holland’s top-flight, and this year he is one of their better performers, along with fellow Manchester City loanees Angeliño and Thierry Ambrose, as the southern Dutch club fight to avoid relegation.

García was named in the January Eredivisie Team of the Month and was also named in Fútbol Draft’s Bronze XI of young Spanish talents.

Often deployed in a deeper midfield role by NAC coach Stijn Vreven, Manu’s key stats don’t stand out on paper – with a single goal and assist in 28 league appearances this season.

Those numbers do not tell the story of his overall contribution though, with the former Sporting Gijón youth the conductor of NAC’s midfield. No player in the squad averages more passes per game than García (45), while he ranks second only to Angeliño in key passes per games.

Perhaps his biggest talent though, is his ability to effectively dribble the ball. Manu has developed the reputation of being a ‘dribble’ master and at the weekend hit a milestone no one else in the Eredivisie has managed to.

According to Opta, García became the first player in the Eredivisie this season to pass 100 completed dribbles, with the midfielder on 102.

His ability with the ball has won him some comparisons to Messi locally, and this latest achievement is nothing new for the prodigious Spaniard.

Though his immediate priority is helping NAC remain at the top level of Dutch football, a decision from City on what is next for García will come this summer. Could Pep Guardiola take a look at him and potentially integrate him into the first team squad? Could a loan move to Girona be on the cards? Or might García be sold on if there is no clear pathway into the Manchester City first team for him?
