Manchester City are currently enjoying an extended break ahead of a grueling fixture set that will see them play Everton, Liverpool twice, Manchester United and Tottenham in a short space of time.
The Blues are now back from a warm-weather training break in Abu Dhabi and players are dispersing for national team duty, and that includes City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan, who has been speaking to RTL in his homeland.
The 27-year-old has been talking highly of Pep Guardiola, and his remarks on Pep’s tactical know-how in particular were quite interesting.
“Sporting things are going very well, but for the team and for me personally,” Gündogan told RTL. “I could not be much happier.
“Pep Guardiola tactically brings a gift that is second to none in the world. When we go to the pitch and see what [Guardiola’s tactics] trigger, then a light goes on.
“The way we see football is quite similar. He played in a similar position to where I’m playing now and he’s also a big fan of midfielders.”
Gündogan is on the verge of winning the Premier League title for the first time, adding that to a Bundesliga title, and a big part of this season’s success is the connection between Pep Guardiola and his players, both on a human level and professionally.
