David Silva in Spain squad as uncapped Manchester City youngster is called up for U21s

Manchester City will have a total of seven players representing Spain in internationals this month, an example of the Spanish flavour at the Etihad these days.

As revealed on Tuesday, Eric Garcia, Alpha Richard Dionkou and Nabil Touazi have all been summoned for this month’s U17 games, while the exciting Brahim Diaz has been called up by Spain’s under-19 squad.

Today, three more players have been named in Spain squads, the least surprising of whom is the maestro David Silva, who will add to his 118 Spain caps against Leroy Sané’s Germany and Sergio Aguero’s Argentina.

There is big news one level down, with Manchester City midfielder Aleix García receiving his first call-up for Spain’s under-21s, who face Northern Ireland and Estonia. He is joined by fellow City teammate on loan at Girona, Pablo Maffeo, who already has three U21 caps to his name.

While Maffeo is undoubtedly the most successful of the five Manchester City loanees at Girona this season – two of whom have already left after failing to make an impact – Aleix has had the second-most productive stay, appearing in 16 La Liga games and a single Copa del Rey fixture for Pablo Machín’s impressive side.
