The agent of Racing Club striker Lautaro Martínez, considered to be the most exciting of Argentina’s latest generation of young strikers, has confirmed that he held talks with Manchester City about a potential deal for the 20-year-old.
Martínez, who stylistically bears an resemblance to Sergio Aguero, is expected to join Serie A giants Inter, with his representative Beto Yaque confirming to Espacio Acadé that a deal is 90 per cent done.
However, it was Manchester City who made one of the first moves for Martinez, who has found the net 8 times in 11 appearances for Argentina’s under-20 side and has been called up by Jorge Sampaoli to the senior squad now.
“Lautaro Martínez’s move to Inter is practically done, 90 per cent,” his agent said. “Only a medical and some small details are missing.
“We previously spoke to the bosses of Manchester City and other clubs, but if I have to list them all I’ll certainly forget someone.
“Fiorentina, Monaco, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Manchester United also asked for information on Lautaro. There’s no chance of his move to Inter falling through now though, there’s already an agreement between the bosses.”
City will hope that not following up on their interest won’t prove costly, with Martínez heading to Europe with the Nerazzurri amid much hype about his talent and potential.
