Manchester City-linked Rafael Leao could soon become a much more expensive target, with Portugal’s Correio da Manhã reporting on Monday that his club Sporting are looking to raise his release clause quite dramatically.
Pep Guardiola is said to have identified the teenage striker as the latest young gem he wants for a very youthful Manchester City squad, with recent reports indicating that talks had already taken place about a deal.
And following a recent story of Sporting trying to increase his €45million (£39.7million) release clause, Correio da Manhã has revealed that the Primeira Liga club are making inroads to raising it to a whopping €100million (£89.1million).
City face rival interest from neighbours Manchester United and Sporting know they have a huge talent on their hands here – with Leao being compared, potential-wise, to Kylian Mbappé, who left Monaco for PSG in a mega-deal last summer.
No new deal has been signed yet, but Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho will have to move quickly to secure Rafael Leao for a more reasonable price, or face having to cough up as much as €100million for him soon.
Leao has scored 6 goals in 11 appearances for Sporting B in the second division of Portuguese football, plus 5 goals in 6 games for Sporting’s under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League.
His appearances for Sporting’s first team have been limited to 134 minutes thus far, but even in that time he has scored twice, evidence of the enormous potential he possesses. In his latest appearance for the senior Sporting side, he scored against rivals FC Porto moments after replacing Seydou Doumbia.
