Manchester City have revealed that Benjamin Mendy trained on Monday, evidence that his return is getting closer after almost half a year out of action with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Mendy trained today along with Raheem Sterling, who is set to return from a brief absence, and Fabian Delph, who has served a three-match suspension after being sent off against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

There was confusion on Friday when the official Man City website posted an interview with Mendy, in which he said: “I think it’s possible for me to come back within four weeks. It’s not a good thing to come back too soon and you have to take your time.
“We will see how things go, but I am working hard and optimistic.
“The Manchester derby is a realistic aim. That’s half clear in my mind. I really want to play that game.”
Mendy later seemed to deny actually saying those things on his Twitter account.
?? hummm not sure where or when I said that but … calm down guys, no rush or pressure it will take as long as I need until I’m 100% https://t.co/CRysUTXFhE

But the images of him in training today suggest that he won’t be sidelined for too much longer and perhaps April’s Manchester derby isn’t so unrealistic after all.
