Pep Guardiola’s irresistible Manchester City side are cruising to the 2017/18 Premier League title and their 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon moved them a step closer to officially becoming champions.
Many records are falling in a season dominated by the Shark Team though, and that included two more today – both of them records previously set and now broken again by Manchester City.
The first one saw City renew a record they had set back in October, by blowing away their record of most successful passes in a league game. Against Chelsea, City made 902 successful passes, an incredible 59 more than the previous record set against West Brom.
Meanwhile, TWO Manchester City players arrived on the top five list of most successful passes in a Premier League game, with Ilkay Gundogan breaking the record set by Yaya Touré against Stoke all the way back in that memorable title-winning season of 2011/12.
The German midfielder played 167 successful passes, 10 more than Yaya. But the impressive Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is quickly proving to be a shrewd investment by the Blues, also crept on to the top five with his 147 successful passes on Sunday.
There may be yet more records to fall before the end of the season, with this Manchester City team undoubtedly set to go down as one of the greatest to ever grace the Premier League.
