Arsene Wenger is still uncertain whether two of his key midfielders, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, will be fit enough to start in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, but was optimistic at his press conference this morning.
The Gunners boss did rule out Alexandre Lacazette through injury, while new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan is ineligible having already represented Manchester United in the competition.
Alex Iwobi, who played in Arsenal’s Thursday night defeat to Östersunds in the Europa League, has been labelled a doubt by Wenger.
Question marks remain over Ozil and Ramsey, although Wenger sounded quietly optimistic that they could play some part against City.
On Ramsey, Wenger said: “I have to make a decision on Aaron Ramsey on Saturday. He looks OK, but we will know more about it tomorrow.”
As for playmaker Ozil, much depends on how he responds to today’s training session.
“I’ll see him this morning,” Wenger told the media at his press conference. “He had a good session yesterday, that he absorbed well. So we have to see how he responds to it today. But I think he will be alright. You want all your best players available and, of course, he is an important player for us.”
