Pep Guardiola has agreed a new and improved £20million-a-season deal with Manchester City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the 2020/21 season, according to the Daily Mail.
The Catalan’s new deal, which will replace his existing one that is due to expire at the end of next season, will see him take home an extra £3million a year. And it will guarantee at least three full seasons after the current campaign with Pep in charge.
Guardiola wants to win his first piece of silverware in England before his new contract is announced, and with that in mind a win over Arsenal this Sunday could lead to an imminent announcement.
Otherwise, it may be that the contract isn’t announced until City lift the Premier League trophy – which seems a near certainty at this point with their 16 point lead. But Guardiola’s long-term commitment to the club is great news for everyone involved.
Pep would also like his backroom staff to be rewarded with new deals for their hard work, which has seen City reach new levels of quality on the pitch this season.
