Opinion: Manchester City’s treble chances hang in the balance

After City’s shock defeat to Wigan, Pep Guardiola’s rampant Manchester City side now have their quadruple hopes quashed to a measly treble, or so the media will have it portrayed. City’s FA Cup hopes have disappeared and leave City in the running for the three remaining competitions now.

With the league title looking prime and ready to make its way from its temporary home at Stamford Bridge to come back home to the Etihad, the Citizens now have the Carabao Cup and Champions League now heavily in their sights to provide one of the richest trophy-winning seasons in recent English football history.

After the flames of the on-fire Will Grigg were extinguished and the embers settled on City’s quadruple dream, the Blues look ahead to their Carabao Cup Final against Arsenal to secure their first silverware since Guardiola took over. The Blues probably go into Sunday’s showdown as the favourites with their league form putting them a staggering 27 (TWENTY-SEVEN) points ahead of the Gunners.

Should City win on Sunday, they will secure their first, and likely not the last, piece of silverware of the season and with the Premier League challenge looking strong, Sunday may prove to be a vital cog in a double-winning season for the Blues.

Should City do the treble this year, they will need to conquer their Champions League demons and win the European competition this season to complete the trio of trophies available to them. City are all but through to the quarter final stages and could likely face up against a number of Premier League teams in the next round, providing them with a hopeful chance of getting through to the latter stages of the competition. Whether the Blues could even win multiple trophies still hangs in the balance and the coming weeks could prove pivotal with Arsenal at the weekend, followed by a back-to-back league double header with Arsenal and Chelsea, followed by the return leg of the Champions League.

City could emerge from these games with a trophy in the bag, their strong league positon maintained and a trip into the Champions League quarter finals, banishing the recent memories of the burning Will Grigg amongst the City defence. What we do know is that City are in with a likely chance of winning more than one trophy this season and you can test your metal by betting with or against the side with betting.org right now!
