Pep Guardiola wants to add Napoli holding midfielder Jorginho to his Manchester City squad in the summer, Italian TV channel Premium Sport HD reports.
It is claimed that after seeing the pass specialist up close when City played Napoli twice in the Champions League group stage, Guardiola was so impressed that he now wants to sign the 26-year-old.
Napoli would want a minimum of €30million (£26.5million) for Jorginho, a Brazilian-born player who recent decided to instead represent Italy at international level.
The Italian source goes on to claim that Napoli are already in advanced negotiations to sign Corinthians midfielder Maycon, valued at €8million (£7.1million), at the end of the season. He would be a direct replacement for Jorginho.
Jorginho, who has made 22 appearances in Serie A for the Naples club this season, and has a pass accuracy rate of 89.2%, has also been linked with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United of late.
Curiously, almost everything stated, including the replacement, has also been reported about the man widely thought to be Pep’s top midfielder target, Fred. He also impressed the Catalan in Europe and Shakhtar are also said to have lined up Maycon as a replacement.
At this point, Fred appears to be the most likely midfielder to be brought in for the ‘No 6’ role, but the appearance of Jorginho on the rumour mill presents an appealing alternative should, for any reason, Fred not arrive.
