Pep Guardiola has dismissed any suggestion that Bernardo Silva could have a short stay at the Etihad with the 23-year-old having started only 9 of City’s Premier League games, appearing as a substitute 16 times.
It has taken Bernardo time to settle in Manchester, much like Leroy Sané in his debut season, but the Portuguese international has been showing something closer to his Monaco form of late.
And Pep sees Bernardo as a long-term part of his plans at City, having praised the winger’s attitude.
“When he played he’s played top,” Guardiola told reporters.
“He’s a young guy, he’s a guy in the locker room who we are so happy to have here.
“He’ll stay a long time, while I’m here he will not move on, he will stay with me.”
One of the hallmarks of this dominant City squad has been the excellent team spirit, and Bernardo has responded well to his rotational role.
“I haven’t seen him sad, even for one day – always in a good mood, and you cannot imagine how important that is.
“When he didn’t play too much, you cannot imagine how important he is in the locker room and he’s this kind of guy, his mood is always in the right place.”
In total, Bernardo has made 39 appearances for City this season, but 20 of those appearances came off the bench and he will be pushing to start more regularly.
