Pep Guardiola will remain loyal to his cup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal in a week’s time.
The Manchester City boss may have been tempted to put the outstanding Ederson in goal, but after playing Chile’s number one Bravo throughout the competition, confirmed in the embargoed portion of his pre-Wigan press conference that Bravo will be between the sticks.
“We are in the Carabao Cup final thanks to him, so he is going to play. I cannot forget what happened against Wolves,” said Guardiola.
“All the top clubs need two good keepers. You cannot survive with just one. He might be injured or suspended.”
Guardiola was full of praise for Bravo, who has been demoted since Ederson’s arrival after joining from Barcelona in the summer of 2016.
“I know it’s not easy but he has been perfect and training good, because he knows he always has to be ready.”
34-year-old Bravo will have a rare week where he starts two City games in a row, with the player poised to start on Monday night against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fifth round.
