Manchester City are preparing to reward Oleksandr Zinchenko with a new contract after his impressive performances at left-back this season, according to The Sun on Sunday.
Zinchenko, 21, was floundering on PSV Eindhoven’s bench a year ago, but has impressed Pep Guardiola with his work rate and versatility, and with Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph enduring injury problems, the Ukrainian has made 9 appearances this season, 6 of them in 2018.
And having won over Pep, it is reported that Zinchenko is set to be offered a new deal that will smash through the £50,000-a-week barrier.
Oleks’ versatility has led to Guardiola converting him from a left midfielder to a left-back with good results this season.
“It started directly when I came back from PSV and from first training session,” Zinchenko said of his new role.
“Before that I played in this position a few times, around five to seven games.
“I was mainly in midfield but now I think I can play everywhere.”
