Manchester City fans will be uneasy to learn that Craig Pawson has been appointed referee for the Carabao Cup final between the Blues and Arsenal on 25 February.
Pawson infamously disallowed a valid City goal in last season’s FA Cup semi-final between the same sides, while allowing Arsenal players to systematically foul David Silva out of the game.
City had three big decisions against them and ultimately lost the game 2-1, having many reasons to feel aggrieved.
On the flip side, City are perfect under Pawson this season, after the Yorkshireman had the whistle for wins over Stoke (7-2), Huddersfield (1-2) and Spurs (4-1).
Arsenal have a 50/50 record with Pawson this season, being battered 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield back in August before demolishing Everton 5-2 at Goodison Park in October.
The cup final will also have VAR, the first City game to feature the new technology.
