Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is set to end his pursuit of Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez, according to both the Mirror and Daily Star.
According to both newspapers, Pep has not been impressed at how Mahrez has behaved since his proposed transfer to the Etihad collapsed, with the 26-year-old going on strike at the King Power Stadium and refusing to train.
Mahrez is likely to miss Leicester’s match against his former suitors this Saturday, and Guardiola is now said to have ‘major concerns’ about Mahrez’s character.
Guardiola likes a tight-knit, professional group of players, and having watched Mahrez skip training five times now, is going cold on the idea of a new bid for him in the summer.
City hope to add one more attacking player in the summer, and with Mahrez now seemingly off the agenda, Guardiola will look at alternatives.
Bayer Levekusen whiz-kid Leon Bailey is on option, with City Watch exclusively revealing last week that he is one of the alternatives under consideration.
The dream target is Eden Hazard, but the chances of Chelsea selling him to a rival are slim, with Real Madrid also eyeing the Belgian wizard.
