Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng had a forgettable and brief spell at Manchester City in the infancy of his career in the senior game, but is an admirer of the current team.
The 29-year-old, who spent a year at the Etihad Stadium in the 2010/11 season, also worked with Pep Guardiola for three seasons at Bayern Munich and benefited from it, developing into a better player under Pep’s tutelage.
And speaking exclusively to Goal, Boateng spoke highly of Pep as a manager and the team he has developed at City.
“He’s brilliant,” Boateng told Goal. “For me, tactically, he is the best.
“This season City bought a lot of good players. They have a lot of money.
“Now you see more that it’s his team. They play very good football. It’s beautiful to watch.”
Despite slipping up and dropping points with a 1-1 draw at Burnley on Saturday, City remain comfortably clear at the top of the Premier League, 13 points ahead of neighbours United.
Guardiola has sent his hard-working players away for three days to recover mentally and physically, with more league and FA Cup games, the Carabao Cup final, and Champions League Round of 16 matches with FC Basel coming up.
