With just a couple of training sessions under his belt, club-record signing Aymeric Laporte was thrown straight into the Manchester City team last night against West Brom – and he didn’t disappoint.
Calm, composed and classy, the 23-year-old had a comfortable debut in sky blue, and some of his long range passing enchanted the Etihad faithful.
But what did the opposition manager think of City’s only major signing in January?
Speaking at a press conference after the match, Alan Pardew spoke glowingly of Laporte and warned his fellow league managers that City have another “asset” on their hands.
“Laporte I thought was terrific,” the West Brom boss said. “His passing from left to right was a problem for us.
“I’ve got bad news for other Premier League managers – they’ve got another asset, not just a defensive one but an offensive one too with his passing.
“Good luck to everybody else.”

Laporte could feature again in just a couple of days when City face a tricky away day at Burnley. John Stones was absent last night through illness and as yet, it’s unclear if he will be back to play to potentially partner the man who was born just one day before him in May 1994.
