The short-term future of Manchester City-owned forward Olarenwaju “Larry” Kayode is in limbo after the transfer window shut last night.
The player is currently without a definite club after Amiens failed to announce his loan signing from City, which would – and could still – see him relocated from La Liga side Girona FC, where he spent the first half of the season on loan.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international arrived in Amiens yesterday hopeful of finally moving to the Ligue 1 side in search of regular football, but things didn’t go as planned.
According to RMC Sport in France, an administrative problem prevented his loan move from being validated late in the transfer window.
Amiens are still ‘hopeful’ that the deal can be cleared, but it has now been referred to FIFA who will make a decision in the coming days.
On the Spanish side, the AS newspaper describes the situation as a ‘mess’. They back up the information that Kayode travelled to France after canceling his Girona loan deal, but the fact that three clubs were involved – Manchester City, Girona and Amiens – led to bureaucratic issues and the player not being registered in time.
In Montilivi they do not know what the current situation of the player is and if he can return to Girona should the Amiens move not be ratified.
It’s possible that Kayode could be allowed to return to Girona if the Amiens deal isn’t given FIFA approval, otherwise he will be solely registered to Man City and is unlikely to be registered in Pep Guardiola’s revised 25-man squad – that’s if he can even get a UK work permit, which may prove difficult.
The next few days will be decisive for the immediate career of Larry Kayode – who doesn’t know which of three clubs he is eligible to play for right now.
