Gabriel Jesus will be out for another “three or four weeks” according to Pep Guardiola, who confirmed that the Brazilian will be missing until late February after tonight’s 3-0 win over West Brom.
It is perhaps a little longer of an absence than recently expected, but shorter than originally feared when there were suggestions Jesus could be out for the rest of the season. He could be back in time for the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal on February 25.
With a deal for Riyad Mahrez not panning out, Pep Guardiola has only three players he classifies as “strikers”, with just one of them, Sergio Aguero, a traditional striker.
Subsequently, Guardiola announced that 19-year-old academy product Lukas Nmecha is being promoted to first-team training and may be in line for some appearances.
The highly-rated England youth international, who signed a new contract recently, appeared for 32 minutes against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup in December.
“We have just three strikers. From now on Lukas Nmecha is going to train with the first team,” Guardiola said.
