Manchester City have again raised their bid to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester by offering what would be a club record fee of £60million, the Daily Mail reports.
With eight hours left in the transfer window at the time of writing, City are very much in a race against the clock but are pushing hard to secure 26-year-old Mahrez before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Should Leicester accept this offer, City would break their transfer record for the second time in 48 hours after signing Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in a £57million deal.
Mahrez is pushing for the move and has made a personal plea to Leicester’s owners to sanction it. The player did not train with his teammates on Tuesday and will miss Leicester’s Premier League clash with Everton tonight.
Pep Guardiola refused to rule out signing Mahrez when asked about it yesterday, but did say he felt further signings were ’90 to 95 per cent’ unlikely.
