Laporte has signed a five year contract at the Etihad Stadium after City triggered his €65million (£57million) release clause. He will wear the number 14 shirt.
The 23-year-old has been a long-term target for Pep Guardiola and was on the verge of signing in the summer of 2016 before famously changing his mind at the last minute and opting to sign a new contract at Athletic Club.
He couldn’t say no a second time when City returned for him and has become the club’s most expensive recruit – and the third £40million-plus defensive signing of the season.
Laporte’s arrival strengthens City’s central defensive options which already include Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones, Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Speaking to the official site, Laporte said: “I am very happy to be here. City are a Club with a lot of ambition and they are one of the best teams in Europe.
“I am looking forward to working under Pep Guardiola and trying to help the Club to achieve success.
“It means a lot that the Club have shown faith in me and I am excited to get started.”
