Manchester City are making a surprise late swoop for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez late in the January transfer window, journalist Alan Nixon of The Sun reports.
Nixon said City have taken a ‘large and late interest’ in the 26-year-old Algerian international.
In his expanded article, Nixon claims City are pushing for a £60million deadline day move for Mahrez and want the player on his way today.
Mahrez is seeking showdown talks with Leicester bosses in an attempt to force a deal to the Premier League leaders, with wages understood to be no problem.
Leicester’s owners, not short of money themselves, are likely to resist such a late approach for their star player.
There have been whispers of City moving for a winger after Leroy Sané sustained ankle ligament damage and Mahrez would certainly add depth and quality to the squad.
UPDATE: City’s interest in Mahrez is now being backed up by several other sources.
As reported by @MirrorAnderson , Manchester City have an interest in Riyad Mahrez but I'm told they will have to bid crazy money to convince Leicester to sell with one day of the window left

Here we go again. There is a big push being made for Mahrez. City need him to force his way out of Leicester to get it done, so it's very much up in the air. Sane's injury has forced them to go in hard. https://t.co/jIqtFUAn1h
