Manchester City have confirmed that Leroy Sané suffered ankle ligament damage as a result of a challenge from Joe Bennett in last night’s FA Cup tie with Cardiff.
No timeline has been set for his return.
Harry Kane missed a month with a similar injury last season, but depending on the severity of it, it could possibly be anything from a month to two months.
Sané has scored 11 goals and contributed 14 assists this season, and his absence comes as a blow, though City have the likes of Bernardo Silva in good form who can step in.
Alternatively, Guardiola could revive his three at the back formation with Aymeric Laporte set to arrive, making a back three more realistic.
Leroy has taken to social media, saying he doesn’t think the injury is “as bad as it looked” and suggesting he’ll start rehab soon.
Thanks for all your messages yesterday and today! I suffered ankle ligament damage, but I think it isn't as bad as it looked. 😉 My rehab will start soon and I'm motivated to be back on the pitch as soon as possible! 🔥⚽🔥 #inSané #LS19 @ManCity pic.twitter.com/WQCpdFrgjO
