Manchester City-bound Aymeric Laporte arrived at Athletic Bilbao’s Instalaciones de Lezama in a black Range Rover for the final time today, parking up at 5:30pm local time.
Three quarters of an hour later, the 23-year-old left the parking lot of Lezama with his sunglasses on, crying uncontrollably.
Laporte had said his final goodbyes to club staff according to local journalist Nika Cuenca, having to bid farewell to surroundings familiar to him since he was just 10-years-old.
After hugging Josu Renteria, the ‘guardian’ of the parking lot, Laporte drove away for a brand new adventure in the Premier League with Manchester City.
Athletic Club have already announced that Laporte’s €65million (£57million) release clause has been activated, although declined to mention Manchester City in their official club statement, as Laporte must now formally sign his City contract.
According to Cuenca, Laporte is now on his way to Manchester, so may well be in the air as this is written.
The soon-to-be club record signing will be presented on Tuesday and begin a new stage of his career, after eight years at the Basque club where he developed his skills.
