Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola delivers bad news on Leroy Sané injury

Pep Guardiola revealed after Manchester City’s FA Cup fourth round win over Cardiff City today that winger Leroy Sané will face a spell on the sidelines.

The German winger was subject of a horror foul by Cardiff defender Joe Bennett, but appeared to roll his ankle in the process and Guardiola said Leroy will be out for “a minimum of two to three weeks. We’ll see tomorrow.”

The City boss went on to make another plea to the authorities to protect players, not just City stars – but all players – from some of the violent fouls being committed. City players have been on the end of some potential leg-breakers this season.

“All they have to do is protect the players. Not the Manchester City players, THE players,” Pep said.

“For football in general, they are the artists … and all they have to do is protect them.”

The 22-year-old’s absence should give Bernardo Silva, who impressed today and had a goal wrongly disallowed, a chance at some regular starts in the team.
